Heidi E. Warren is an associate attorney and practices primarily in the firm’s immigration group and defense and export controls group. In Abbott Nicholson’s Immigration Group, Heidi represents businesses and their employees including business executives, scientists, engineers, computer and business personnel, and other professionals in obtaining nonimmigrant visas for the foreign employee and their family as they plan for entry into the United States as well as assisting them in the permanent residence and naturalization processes. Heidi also represents individuals and their families in obtaining entry into the United States by assisting them with nonimmigrant and immigrant visas, applying for U.S. legal permanent residence status and citizenship/naturalization status, and other immigration matters.
In Abbott Nicholson’s Defense and Export Controls Legal Group, Heidi counsels businesses on compliance with the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (“ITAR”) and related export laws and regulations. In this capacity, Heidi assists in the registration of businesses with the Department of State, establishment of an export compliance program, application for export licenses and other government authorizations, process assessments, audits, investigations, and voluntary disclosures. Heidi has broad experience in export matters from servicing international accounts while working for international shipping and logistics companies.
Heidi also supports the firm’s litigation, labor and employment, and corporate sections with research, writing, handling motions, and court appearances.
Heidi is admitted to the practice of law in the State of Michigan, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Heidi is an active member of the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association, Oakland County Bar Association, the Michigan chapter of the Women in Defense, an affiliate of the National Defense Industrial Association, and the national and Michigan chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association.
Heidi received her undergraduate degree from Saint Louis University (B.A., 1997) and her law degree from University of Detroit Mercy School of Law (J.D., 2006). While attending University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, Heidi was a Senior Member and Associate Editor of the school’s Law Review. Also during law school, Heidi gained experience by working as an extern for the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, an intern law clerk for the Honorable Michael Warren of Oakland County Circuit Court, and by working for the firm as a part-time law clerk.
